“Wati Jarra Jukurrpa”

46 x 30cm

Ref No: FJ36715

The Wati Jarra Jukurrpa (Two Men Dreaming) belongs to Japaljarri/Jungarrayi men and Napaljarri/Nungarrayi women. The painting depicts the journey of a father and son performing initiation ceremonies for young men. The men wear feathers on both sides of their heads. Their bodies are painted with white and black circles, representing stars. Ceremonial spears are tied to legs of the young initiates using snake vine. In contemporary Warlpiri paintings traditional iconography is used to represent the Jukurrpa, geographic sites and other elements. The concentric circles represent the stars and the staright lines represent the spears.
